Capturelife, the digital memory platform for experience creating brands, worked closely with the Imagine Exhibitions team to curate a memorable guest photo experience.
Background
Harry Potter™: The Exhibition is a groundbreaking touring exhibition that made its world premiere in Philadelphia at the Franklin Institute in February 2022. The exhibition is currently on view in the US and EMEA with plans to expand into AsiaPac and Latam. It celebrates the films and stories of Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts™ and the expanded Wizarding World utilizing best-in-class immersive design and technology. The touring exhibition presents beautifully crafted environments that honor the iconic moments, characters, settings, and beasts as seen in the Wizarding World films and stories and explores the filmmaking magic and behind the scenes content that brought them to life.
The Experience
For the presentation, Capturelife developed a photography program that would blend seamlessly into the overall guest experience. To accomplish that goal, Capturelife integrated with the exhibition’s RFID and guest experience computer systems.
When guests arrive at the exhibition, they are given a RFID wristband and they can use it to create their user profile at a kiosk near the entrance to the exhibition. Capturelife's digital photo platform recognizes the guest profile and preferences throughout the experience via interactive screens that are dispersed throughout the 30 immersive galleries that canvasses approximately 30,000 sq. feet of space.
The camera management technology automatically associates photos with a guest’s Harry Potter: The Exhibition account. Leveraging Capturelife’s AI background knockout capabilities, each guest is placed into various iconic scenes from the films, including the Great Hall in Hogwarts Castle and Platform 9¾ at the Hogwarts Express train platform. And because Capturelife’s state-of-the-art background knockout technology does not require a green screen backdrop, the photo experience blends seamlessly into the surrounding environment.
The exhibition retail store includes a collective bank of Capturelife touch screen kiosks that allow guests to easily browse and purchase their photos from their experience at the exhibition. The kiosks are branded and are localized for both language and currency systems based on the country hosting the exhibition.
Guests can automatically access their photos by scanning their RFID band at the kiosk. Purchased photos are immediately delivered to their mobile device using Capturelife’s brand new mobile web app where they can be downloaded or shared using any social application.
The flexibility of the Capturelife platform is being leveraged to provide all customers with a special memento from their visit. After guests interact with all of the experiential interactions located throughout the exhibition, Capturelife delivers a branded digital summary of the guests’ experience, including personalized content based on interactions they had throughout the exhibition along with their souvenir photos.
Results
The modern, fully integrated and fluid guest experience at Harry Potter: The Exhibition has greatly elevated the guest experience as well as sales. The combination of on-site sales with the Capturelife kiosks and mobile marketing and sales after the visit is contributing to a higher rate of purchase.
Tom Zaller, President & CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, said: "We wanted to personalize the experience for the visitor and photography is a wonderful vehicle to do that as it helps connect personal memories to a shared experience. We found fun ways to expertly weave in technology so that the visitor feels surprised and delighted by its inclusion, but not overwhelmed by the technology. We’re looking forward to making more enhancements with Capturelife as we gain more insights and as the exhibition continues to travel around the world in 2023.”
